There are a couple of definitions for the term tee:
The art of striking the ball from tee. Those golfer's hitting off a tee are considered to have teed off, more commonly those golfer's are said to be teed off.
A poor lie on which the ball sits either upon a bare patch of ground or sits under 6 inches of grass. Sometimes also known as "preliminary lie" or "former lie".
Three shots over par, or the "norm" as it is more typically called.
