The Golfer's Dictionary

A dictionary of popular golf terms from the perspective of an amateur golfer, if you have any suggestions then feel free to get in touch and I'll add them.

Entries

Tap-in

A putt so close to the hole it's possible to miss one-handed.

Tee

There are a couple of definitions for the term tee:

  • A small wooden or plastic peg used to raise the ball, typically limited to the initial drive but very handy for raising the ball in the rough.
  • A clearly defined area for driving off, typically followed by a short walk into the nearest woodland area.

Teeing Off

The art of striking the ball from tee. Those golfer's hitting off a tee are considered to have teed off, more commonly those golfer's are said to be teed off.

Tight Lie

A poor lie on which the ball sits either upon a bare patch of ground or sits under 6 inches of grass. Sometimes also known as "preliminary lie" or "former lie".

Triple Bogey

Three shots over par, or the "norm" as it is more typically called.
