There are a couple of definitions for the term tee:

  • A small wooden or plastic peg used to raise the ball, typically limited to the initial drive but very handy for raising the ball in the rough.
  • A clearly defined area for driving off, typically followed by a short walk into the nearest woodland area.

Teeing Off

The art of striking the ball from tee. Those golfer's hitting off a tee are considered to have teed off, more commonly those golfer's are said to be teed off.

Tight Lie

A poor lie on which the ball sits either upon a bare patch of ground or sits under 6 inches of grass. Sometimes also known as "preliminary lie" or "former lie".
